Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on September 17, on his birthday, and perform a puja at the Sardar Sarovar Dam site at Kevadia, near Vadodara.

The Gujarat BJP has planned celebrations to express their gratitude to the prime minister for the initiatives he took to ensure the completion of the Narmada Project. The programme is titled 'Narmade Sarvde'.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Saturday that PM Modi will visit the dam site on September 17 and perform puja.

The water level at the dam will be raised to its maximum height of 138.68 metres on the day of his visit.

Managing director of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited, Rajiv Gupta, said as there has been good rainfall in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, the state government has been able to release water through the canals and fill up the water bodies in the command area of the Sardar Sarovar Project.

He said there won't be any shortage of water for drinking and irrigation purposes for the next two years as there was a good amount of rains this year.

Programmes will be held at water bodies across the state on September 17.

Modi is expected to take blessings of his mother Hiraba, who stays near Gandhinagar on the occasion.
