Tripura: Man suspected of stealing cattle lynched

A suspected cattle thief was lynched in Raishyabari, a remote tribal village near the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura's Dhalai district on Wednesday. The police have identified the victim as Budhi Kumar Tripura.

According to the police, 36-year-old Budhi Kumar Tripura was caught entering a cattle shed of one of the villagers. The group of people who caught Tripura went on beat him up mercilessly. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Arindam Nath said the incident happened in Noarampara, under the jurisdiction of Raishyabari police station on Tuesday night.

Suleman Reang, officer-in-charge of Raishyabari police station said that the cops had reached the spot after Tripura was caught and beaten up by the villagers. They rescued him and took him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries later.

Budhi Kumar Tripura was a resident of Manyakumarpara village, the police added. His body has been sent for postmortem examination.
