At 9.20am, the BJP was leading in 23 of the 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh, with the Congress leading in just four seats. In the 2014 elections, the BJP had swept the state, winning 27 of the 29 seats.
Pragya Singh Thakur, the controversial candidate chosen by the BJP for Bhopal, was leading over Digvijaya Singh of the Congress. Nakul Nath, son of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, was leading in Chhindwara, the constituency represented for long by his father. Senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia was trailing in his family pocket borough of Guna to Dr K.P. Yadav of the BJP.

Other Congress leaders who are leading are Dr Govind Subhan Mujalda in Khargone and Kamal Singh Maravi in Mandla.
The Congress was the single-largest party in the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls in December last year, and was hoping for a improved performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
