The cave near the Kedarnath temple where Prime Minister Narendra Modi meditated for 17 hours is reported to have WiFi, telephone, electricity and a toilet with basic facilities.

The prime minister offered prayers at the Himalayan shrine in Uttarakhand on Saturday. Dressed in a grey traditional pahadi attire, he offered prayers for about 30 minutes and undertook a circumambulation of the Kedarnath shrine situated at a height of 11,755 feet.

Following his visit to the shrine, Modi went inside a cave to meditate. He addressed the media after his temple visit and said that he was “privileged to meditate in the cave.” He was seen wearing a saffron shawl and meditating inside the cave ahead of the last phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

According to reports, the cave in which Modi was meditating was equipped with WiFi, telephone, electrivity and a toilet with basic facilities.

Modi emerged from the cave on Sunday morning and made his way to the Badrinath temple.

The prime minister also conveyed his gratitude to the Election Commission for granting him permission to visit the temple. The EC gave its nod to the visit while “reminding” the Prime Minister's Office that the model code of conduct is still in force.

The cave, in which PM Modi was meditating, is known as the Rudra cave. The modern meditation cave was built last year for devotees after the PM assumed responsibility of the Kedarnath Vikas Dham. The cave is the tourism property of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and can be used by devotees for Rs 3,000 for three days.
