Following criticism by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the recent show of strength by opposition parties in Kolkata, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Sunday evening declared the “oppressed” sections of society would be “free” in 100 days.

Addressing Modi as “your highness”, Gandhi tweeted, “The cries for help are the cries of millions of unemployed youth; of farmers in distress; of oppressed Dalits & Adivasis; of persecuted minorities; of small businessmen in ruin; begging to be freed from your tyranny & incompetence. In 100 days they will be free.”

Gandhi's tweet encompasses the various sections of society that the Congress claims have been adversely affected by policies of the Narendra Modi government and also highlights the problems of unemployment, agrarian distress and caste conflict. The '100 days' cited by Gandhi appears to be a reference to the impending Lok Sabha polls.

The tweet by Gandhi also attached a news article that reported on a speech by Modi at a BJP rally in Silvassa in Dadra and Nagar Haveli on Saturday. Modi had claimed there the opposition parties that assembled in Kolkata had “money power”, while the BJP had “people's power”.

Modi had also criticised the opposition's attempt at stitching up a Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) while addressing BJP workers from Lok Sabha constituencies of Kolhapur, Hatkanangle, Madha and Satara in Maharashtra and South Goa through videoconference on Sunday.

Gandhi, whose social media activity has increased considerably over the past year, has taken to trolling Modi in recent months on issues ranging from allegations over the Rafale deal to the prime minister receiving the Philip Kotler Presidential Award.
