The Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday arrested Bajrang Dal activist Yogesh Raj, key accused in the Bulandhshahr mob violence that killed a police officer and civilian. He was arrested from the Khurja area near Bulandshahr.

Yogesh had been on the run ever since violence erupted over cow slaughter. Yogesh who is the Bulandshahr district convenor of Bajramg Dal had released a video, claiming innocence. According to reports, he had said he was not present at the site of violence and that the Uttar Pradesh police were trying to portray him in bad light.

On December 3, a mob of some 400 people rampaged through a village in Bulandshahr apparently after cow carcasses were found in a jungle nearby. During the violence, Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and 20-year-old Sumit Kumar died of gunshot wounds. Singh and his team had gone to the area to tackle the violence when they came under attack by the mob.

On Monday, the police had arrested another man, Kalua, who had allegedly attacked inspector Subodh Kumar Singh with an axe. On December 28, they had arrested Prashant Nutt for pulling the trigger on Singh.
