No alliance, MNF will form govt on its own: Zoramthanga

MNF bags 26 out of 40 seats

With the Mizo National Front set for a landslide victory in Mizoram Assembly polls, bagging 26 out of 40 seats, MNF chief Zoramthanga said his party would not go for any post poll alliance, but form the government on its own.

“We will not have any coalition government either with the BJP or any other ways because my party can form the government on its own as we have got 26 seats out of 40,”  Zoramthanga said soon after the results were announced.

He said his party doesn't want to join the Congress or the BJP though they are a part of the NEDA (North-East Democratic Alliance) and NDA (National Democratic Alliance)

Zoramthanga said his government's priorities will be three things—to impose a prohibition on liquor, repair roads and implement Social Economic Development Programme (SEDP).

The Congress party, which had bagged 34 seats in the 2013 assembly polls, was reduced to just five seats while the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) won eight seats. BJP managed to win one seat in the state.

Five-time chief minister of Mizoram, Lal Thanhawla, who contested from Champhai South and Serchhip, has lost both the seats.
