THE WEEK clarifies: Audio proof of EXCLUSIVE interview with ULFA chief Paresh Baruah

THE WEEK is in possession of a statement from ULFA(I)’s publicity wing member Rumel Asom, in which he claims that his leader Paresh Baruah never spoke to our Special Correspondent Rabi Banerjee. The hour-long interview THE WEEK had with Baruah on August 27 at 12:30pm was recorded. THE WEEK had been wanting to talk to Baruah after reports emerged that the rebel outfits in the northeast were regrouping. Baruah, who had called up Rabi Banerjee, spoke extensively about his organisation’s future and his relations with China. He also wanted THE WEEK to talk to Abhizeet Asom, the organisation’s chairman. We are attaching a small part of the recorded conversation Baruah had with Rabi Banerjee, to prove the authenticity.
