The Congress received fresh ammo to target the BJP and the Union government after Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, in a TV show, admitted that the BJP made tall promises ahead of Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi shared a video of the Union minister, also featuring Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, in which he is heard saying that the BJP was sure that they would not be able to come to power...."So our people suggested to make tall promises. If we do not come to power, we would not be responsible anyways. Now the problem is that people have voted us to power." At this point, both Nana Patekar and the minister are seen laughing.

"Now people remind us of our promises...we just laugh and move on," the minister says. The interview appeared in a Marathi television channel recently.

Nonetheless, to a different question, the Union minister admits that there is a need for the BJP to be more open and transparent.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "You are right. Even the people think that the BJP used their aspirations and faith for the party’s gain to come to power.”
