The voice records of the phone call between a cop at the Gandhinagar police station in Kerala's Kottayam district and the abductors of Kottayam youth Kevin, who was murdered in a suspected case of honour killing, and his relative Aneesh are out. The call was made at 5.35 am on Sunday. It is believed that the call was made after Kevin died.

Kevin was abducted on Sunday and killed by a gang of criminals allegedly engaged by his fiance Neenu's family. His body was found in a river in Kollam district Monday. Neenu's brother Sanu Chacko, main accused, was arrested by the police from Kannur in Kerala on Monday.

Earlier, Kevin's fiance Neenu had alleged laxity on the part of the police when she approached the Gandhinagar police station to file a missing complaint.

The phone transcript accessed by Manorama points fingers at the erring police officer.

Here's the call transcript:

Sanu (Neenu's bother ): Speak sir. He (Kevin) has escaped. He must have reached there.

Police: From where did he escape? Did he escape after reaching there?

Sanu: He escaped somewhere. I don't know. I had gone in another vehicle. He (Aneesh) knows that. I don't want to spoil my future. We want our kid (sister Neenu). I have a request to you sir... we made a mistake, it can't be justified. We will hand over Aneesh safely to you. Okay? If we have destroyed anything at home (Kevin's) we will pay the damages. Okay?

Police: A TV has been damaged. The door has been broken too.

Sanu: We will take care of that, will pay some money. Will hand over contact number to him (Kevin's kin). Talk to the kid (Neenu) and return her if it is possible. I'm at your feet.

Police: I will do whatever I can, Sanu.

Sanu: I have a family. I married only six months ago.

Police: I will do whatever I can.

Sanu: Okay

Meanwhile, Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that a grave lapse of duty had occurred on the part of the SI in the murder of the Kottayam youth Kevin over a love marriage. The police officer was suspended soon after the incident. The district police chief was also shifted. Action was taken against the other police officers also who were involved in the case, said the chief minister.

“These are only preliminary measures. Follow-up action will be taken after a detailed examination of the issue. A team has been formed to conduct a detailed investigation. The government has taken the case seriously. The prime suspects are already in custody and the others involved will soon be arrested,” said Pinarayi.
