At a time when most media organisations seem to be expecting 'bloopers' from Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb daily, his Gujarat counterpart Vijay Rupani joined the fray of BJP leaders with a bizarre take on mythology and the modern world. Rupani claimed that the mythological sage Narada was just like internet giant Google.

Rupani was speaking at an event organised by an RSS-linked group in Ahmedabad to mark 'Devarishi Narada Jayanti' on Sunday. Narada appears in the Mahabharata and Ramayana and was known for providing news. Rupani said, “Narada had information of the whole world and he acted on this information.”

Rupani added Narada gave information to many people but he never gave information that would harm humanity. He said much like Narada, Google was the major source of information today.

Rupani is the latest among several BJP leaders to link modern technology to Indian mythology.

Two weeks ago, Deb had claimed the internet and satellite technology existed during the time of the Mahabharata. Despite criticism and trolling, Deb defended his remarks, claiming only narrow-minded people would belittle the 'facts' he stated.

Before him, Minister of State for Human Resources Development Satyapal Singh had claimed in February that Indian mantras had 'codified' the laws of motion long before they were propounded by Newton.
