In a disturbing case, five members of a family died under suspicious circumstances in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The deceased include a couple and their three children. They were identified as Mahesh, 38, his wife Lalita, 34, son Laddu, 12, daughter Mishty, 8 and youngest daughter Sakshi, 4.

The incident took place in Nangla Pada village under the Rabupura police station area.

The bodies were found in bed at their home by neighbours who became suspicious after the family did not appear outside in the morning. As news of the deaths spread, the village gathered around the home.

The family reportedly went to bed at around 10 pm after having Maggi instant noodles and tea.

BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh spoke to PTI, saying, “The Chief Minister’s Office has been informed about the incident. All administrative officials are present here, and the forensic team has also arrived. The Food Department is investigating the matter.”

What caused the deaths

Based on preliminary investigation, police said they suspect food poisoning; the exact cause of death is unknown. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the circumstances around the deaths.

The field unit and forensic team have thoroughly inspected the scene and collected scientific evidence.

There is no evidence that Maggi can directly cause food poisoning.

However, there have been cases where people have died after consuming Maggi. Usually, the causes have been the cooking methods and the added ingredients.

In 2022, a woman died after she accidentally added a rat poison-laced tomato to her Maggi before eating it.

In 2024, a 10-year-old died after eating instant noodles. However, the death was caused by improper food storage and expiration.

There have also been cases where people have died after consuming only junk food for long periods of time.
