In a matter of grave concern, students reportedly fell ill following a suspected food poisoning incident in Gujarat's Surat, with at least 12 of them needing hospitalisation.
As per officials, the students are out of danger. "Seventy-five students residing in the hostel of P P Savani School in the city's Abrama area developed symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting from Saturday night," said Medical Health Officer P H Umrigar from Surat Municipal Corporation to PTI.
A total of 12 students, including nine girls, aged between 15 and 17 years, were admitted. Of these 12 students, four have been discharged after treatment, while the condition of the remaining students is stable, Umrigar said.
"Teams from the Food Department, Health Department and Sanitation Department conducted an inspection at the P P Savani School hostel. During the inspection, four food samples were collected and sent for necessary testing," an official release mentioned.

Complications due to food poisoning can include severe dehydration, as the patient can lose a lot of water and electrolytes with frequent vomiting and diarrhoea.
How to prevent food poisoning:
Practices like safe food handling are important to prevent food poisoning. This would include cleaning the food item, like vegetables or meat, properly. Keeping the cooking countertop, utensils and surroundings clean matters as well. Ensure the food is cooked properly and separated from uncooked food like raw meat and other similar items. Refrigerate food within two hours after cooking.
