Dr N.K. Arora, the chairman of the COVID working group under the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), on Monday revealed major vaccine manufacturers plan to ramp up manufacturing of vaccines by 50 per cent per month.

Speaking to mediapersons, Arora was quoted by ANI as saying Serum Institute of India (SII) had informed "that from June onwards they will be manufacturing 10-12 crore doses, which is almost 50% ramping up. Similarly, (Bharat Biotech) Covaxin is also going to increase its production and by July-end, they will also produce between 10-12 crore."

Arora revealed that India would have 20-25 crore vaccine doses per month. "[We will get] Another 5-6 crore doses from other manufacturing units or if we get international vaccine doses... The objective is to vaccinate 1 crore people every day," Arora said.

Arora also revealed the government could start testing of a regimen of "mixed" vaccine doses. "India may soon start in few weeks testing feasibility of a regimen that mixes 2 different doses of COVID vaccines to see if it helps boost immune response to virus," Arora said.
