Cannabis is a psychoactive drug from the cannabis plant that can be used for medical or recreational purposes. Also known as marijuana or charas, available in crude or purified, it has mental and physical effects, such as creating a "high" or "stoned" feeling, a general change in perception, heightened mood, and an increase in appetite.
Studies have found a strong correlation between cannabis use and the risk of psychosis. Though use, and cultivation of cannabis is illegal in many parts of the world, it is being used for spiritual purposes.
The use of cannabis is regulated in India, under the Narcotic Drugs and Pyschotropic Substances Act, 1985.
