Gregory David Roberts' bestselling novel Shantaram will soon be adapted into a television series by Paramount and Anonymous Content, deadline.com reported on Thursday.
The story deals with how a man named Lin escapes a high-security prison and reaches Mumbai, where he lives as a doctor in a slum. The book was widely hailed for the colourful style of narration, and the engaging characters that inhabited the pages.
“I’m honored and humbled in equal measure as a writer, and thrilled for the many readers who have hoped that Shantaram would become a vivid screen experience,” said Roberts, reported deadline.com. “Television is the perfect medium for the novel, and Steve Golin and Nicole Clemens at Anonymous Content are the perfect partners.”
A movie starring Johnny Depp and directed by Mira Nair was on the anvil, but there were no news of further developments.
