Suriya’s latest film, "Scene", directed by Jithu Madhavan, has enjoyed a spectacular opening at the box office, particularly in Kerala. Released on Friday, 6 November 2026, the film collected an estimated ₹5 crore to ₹6 crore in the state on its first day. This marks a major achievement for the actor, as the film nearly tripled the opening-day collections of his previous releases in 2026.

The film’s strong performance was supported by impressive advance bookings, which crossed ₹2.85 crore to ₹3 crore in Kerala. Its release on over 550 screens in the state also helped boost collections, even as it faced competition from other major releases like “Ramayana”.

The film’s success in Kerala may be largely attributed to director Jithu Madhavan’s popularity among Malayalam audiences. His earlier films, "Romancham" and "Aavesham", were major hits and helped him build a strong following in the state. His Tamil directorial debut, "Scene", therefore attracted considerable interest.

The presence of popular Malayalam actors Naslen, who makes his Tamil debut with the film, and Nazriya Nazim, who returns to cinema after a long break, further increased audience interest.

In Kerala, "Scene" has outperformed Suriya’s earlier 2026 releases on Day 1. While "Karuppu" collected ₹1.85 crore and "Vishwanath & Sons" earned ₹1.50 crore on their opening days, "Scene" managed between ₹5 crore and ₹6 crore, as per trade portal Sacnilk.

The film also delivered impressive numbers worldwide. It collected ₹19.15 crore net in India and ₹34.25 crore globally on its first day, making it Suriya’s biggest India net and worldwide opening of 2026. By comparison, "Karuppu" earned ₹15.50 crore net in India and ₹28.93 crore worldwide, while "Vishwanath & Sons" collected ₹15.35 crore net domestically and ₹31.74 crore worldwide.

Interestingly, "Scene" received most of its domestic collections from its Tamil version, which contributed ₹16.15 crore net. In contrast, "Vishwanath & Sons" showed a more balanced performance, earning ₹9.15 crore from Tamil and ₹6.20 crore from Telugu.

Although "Vishwanath & Sons" performed slightly better overseas, collecting ₹14 crore compared with the ₹12 crore collected by "Scene", Suriya's latest film made up for the difference through stronger domestic collections.
