The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayana: Rise of a Legend on Thursday opened in theatres, looking to earn one of the biggest opening collections in the Diwali release window.

The Nitish Tiwari film has already earned ₹48.34 crore in India gross, while the India net collection stands at ₹40.97 crore so far on its opening day, as it aims for ₹160 crore, as per data from box office tracker Sacnilk.

The Hindi shows lead the charge, with ₹29.28 crore from 14,590 shows, and Kannada shows coming far behind with ₹5.19 crore across 926 shows. Telugu shows stand at ₹4 crore from 1,305 shows, Tamil shows at ₹1.64 crore from 699 shows and Malayalam shows at ₹86 lakh from 396 shows.

This puts it a long way away from the opening day collection of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, which earned ₹102.55 crore net on its opening day, as well as an India gross of ₹172.63 crore.

This made it the first Bollywood film to cross the ₹100-crore mark on its opening day. To beat this opening-day record, Ramayana: Part 1 will have to earn more than 61.58 crore in India net collection alone over the remainder of its opening day.

A key indicator of this is the film's advance booking collection, with its opening-day pre-release bookings alone crossing the ₹50-crore mark to reach ₹50.08 crore gross (including blocked seats) and ₹42.96 crore (excluding blocked seats), as per Sacnilk.

Overall advance booking in India stood at ₹130.12 crore with block seats (and ₹105.12 crore without) before its Thursday release.

The film is released worldwide on Thursday in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam across multiple premium theatrical formats, including IMAX.
