The popular French mystery thriller "Lupin" returns to Netflix with Part 4 on October 23, 2026. The new instalment will feature eight episodes, all releasing on the same day. Starring Omar Sy, the series promises another exciting story filled with clever plans, unexpected twists and dangerous challenges.
The new chapter follows the dramatic events of Part 3 and introduces a fresh mystery that could change the life of its central character, Assane Diop. Part 4 takes place four years after the previous chapter. Assane, played by Omar Sy, is still in prison and hopes to complete his sentence. He plans to leave his troubled past behind and move to Senegal with his family.
However, hopes for a peaceful future are shattered when a mysterious criminal begins carrying out museum robberies using the name Lupin. The crimes take place at the same time, making the situation even more complicated. Evidence points to Assane, though he isn’t responsible. With his name and freedom at risk, Assane must escape from prison to prove his innocence. He also needs to discover who is copying his methods and why the mysterious criminal is framing him.
The new storyline raises an important question: how can Assane defeat an opponent who appears to understand his tricks just as well as he does?
Part 4 will see the return of several important characters. Alongside Omar Sy, Ludivine Sagnier will reprise her role as Claire, Assane's long-time partner and the mother of his son, Raoul, played by Etan Simon. Antoine Gouy returns as Benjamin Ferel, Assane's loyal friend and trusted partner in his complicated plans. Soufiane Guerrab reprises the role of detective Youssef Guédira, who uses his knowledge of literature to understand Assane's methods.
Shirine Boutella also returns as police lieutenant Sofia Belkacem, who is injured during one of the copycat's museum robberies. Naky Sy Savané will reprise her role as Mariama, Assane's mother, who was rescued in Part 3. The four-year time jump will show how these characters have changed and how the new crimes affect their relationships.
The series originally takes inspiration from Arsène Lupin, the fictional gentleman thief created by French author Maurice Leblanc in 1905. However, "Lupin" is not a direct adaptation of the original books. Instead, Assane Diop is a modern character who admires Lupin, and the classic stories inspire his own robberies. He borrows ideas such as disguises, false identities, clever codes and elaborate tricks to outsmart his opponents.
In Part 4, the story moves further away from specific plots in the original novels. With Omar Sy taking on greater creative responsibility as co-showrunner and co-producer alongside Louis Leterrier, the series is exploring more original ideas. The copycat criminal is expected to push Assane in new directions.
Will there be a Part 5?
Netflix has not officially confirmed a fifth part. However, there’s no indication so far that Part 4 is the end of the series, leaving room for future stories. The show's international popularity and Omar Sy's expanded role behind the scenes suggest that there may be more adventures ahead if the new episodes perform well.
