Rajinikanth's Nelson Dilipkumar reunion "Jailer 2" has rewritten box office history in Kerala, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film ever released in the state. Per box office tracking figures from various sources, the Rajinikanth-starrer collected over ₹60 crore in gross revenue within just seven days of its theatrical release in 2026 — an achievement that puts it ahead of the previous record-holder, Vijay-starrer "Leo."
The film's strong performance reflects its popularity among Kerala audiences. Mohanlal's much-discussed screen presence has also added to the excitement surrounding the film, helping it attract attention in a state where Tamil cinema enjoys a large fan following, although reception to his limited screen time has irked many of the superstar's fans.
However, audiences are warming up to the film as a whole, with Nelson's trademark dark humour, particularly in the first half, resonating almost unanimously with everyone.
"Jailer 2" opened strong in Kerala on Day 1 (Thursday), collecting ₹12.70 crore. It earned ₹7.90 crore on Friday and ₹8.85 crore on Saturday. Sunday's collection rose to ₹10.75 crore, taking the film past the ₹40 crore mark within four days. The film continued its successful Kerala run during the weekdays, collecting ₹8 crore on Monday and ₹7.50 crore on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, its seventh day, it added another ₹4.75 crore. These figures brought its reported seven-day Kerala gross to approximately ₹60.45 crore. The total is still expected to change as the film continues its theatrical run.
Before "Jailer 2", "Leo", released in 2023, was considered the highest-grossing Tamil film in Kerala. Its reported collection stood at around ₹59.65 crore to ₹60 crore, based on the data tracked by Sacnilk.
“Jailer 2” has now leapt past that figure in just one week. The achievement puts it at the top of the list of Tamil films that have earned the most money in Kerala.
Rajinikanth's original "Jailer", released in 2023, also performed well in the state, collecting approximately ₹57.70 crore to ₹57.80 crore. Kamal Haasan's "Vikram" follows with around ₹40.10 crore, while "Coolie", released in 2025, earned approximately ₹25 crore.
Although "Jailer 2" has claimed the Tamil box office record, it has not yet become Kerala's highest-grossing film across all languages. Telugu blockbuster "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion" reportedly collected ₹75.20 crore, while Kannada hit "K.G.F: Chapter 2" earned around ₹68.50 crore in the state.
