Netflix will stream a new South Korean fantasy romantic comedy series on October 9, 2026. Titled "Take Charge of My Heart" (Korean: 나를 충전해줘), the show is based on the popular web novel "Charge Me Up" by Hae Beon; the 12-episode series combines romance, comedy, supernatural elements, and a corporate power struggle.
At the centre of the story is Baek Ho-rang, played by Kim Young-kwang, a cold and calculating third-generation chaebol heir and executive at TS Resort. Ho-rang is caught in a fierce battle for control within the company, but he is also facing a much more personal crisis. He depends on an artificial heart whose battery is slowly running out. With his life at risk, he urgently needs a way to keep the device charged.
His unusual solution comes in the form of Na Bo-bae, played by Chae Soo-bin. Bo-bae is a lonely drama screenwriter who has lived in isolation since childhood. After being struck by lightning, she developed a strange ability to generate powerful electricity. Her touch can seriously shock other people, forcing her to wear gloves and avoid physical contact. This unusual condition has made ordinary relationships almost impossible.
Everything changes when Bo-bae meets Ho-rang. To their surprise, Ho-rang is completely unaffected by her electrical power. More importantly, her touch can recharge his artificial heart. Faced with a situation neither of them could have imagined, Ho-rang proposes a three-month contract relationship. What begins as a practical arrangement soon develops into an unexpected romance.
The series is expected to flesh out the details in the original novel, where Bo-bae is not simply trying to help Ho-rang survive. Because she has never been able to hold hands or experience a normal romantic relationship, she sees the contract as a chance to complete her own "romance bucket list." She also needs inspiration for a romance script she must finish under a strict deadline. Dating Ho-rang could give her the real-life experience she needs for her writing.
Ho-rang, meanwhile, struggles with becoming dependent on another person. The novel presents him as an intensely independent businessman who has carefully hidden the truth about his artificial heart. Needing Bo-bae to survive challenges his pride and forces him to confront a vulnerability he would rather keep secret.
The novel is also known for its playful dialogue and unusual premise. One of its most memorable lines captures the relationship perfectly: "Stop playing hard to get... I'll let you live. But in exchange, date me." The line reflects the story's mix of danger, comedy, and romance.
The original story consists of 44 fast-paced chapters. The Netflix adaptation expands it into 12 episodes, allowing more room for supporting characters and a developing love triangle. The main cast also includes Cha Woo-min as Ji Eun-ho, Jung Jae-kwang as Choi Do-yoon, and Shin Do-hyun as Han Seol-hui, in a guest appearance.
Directed by Park Soo-won, known for Birthcare Center, and written by Song Yu-chae, the series is produced by NEW Point and WhyNot Media. Each episode is expected to run for approximately 70 minutes.
This unusual combination of supernatural powers, artificial technology, workplace rivalry, and contract romance should make "Take Charge of My Heart" an ideal pick for your K-drama watchlist. It offers a fresh setup for a romantic comedy: two isolated people discovering that the person they least expected may be the one they cannot live without, in the strangest way possible.
