Apple TV has officially renewed "Imperfect Women" for a second season, turning the psychological thriller from a limited series into an ongoing drama. The new season will take the story in a completely new direction, with Kerry Washington returning as Eleanor and becoming the main focus of the series.

Season 1 was based on Araminta Hall’s standalone novel, which means there is no sequel for the show to adapt. Instead, Season 2 will tell an entirely original story. The new plot will follow Eleanor as she returns to her hometown roots in Martha’s Vineyard, an affluent Black community. There, she will be forced to confront dark secrets, old relationships and scandals from her past.

The biggest change is the cast. Elisabeth Moss, who played Mary, and Kate Mara, who played Nancy, will not return to the screen. However, Moss will be involved as an executive producer. Washington will be the only returning lead actor, with the entire second season built around Eleanor.

The decision to continue the series was largely driven by strong audience interest. Although the first season received mixed reviews from critics, it performed very well with viewers and regularly appeared high on streaming charts. In an official statement, Matt Cherniss, Apple TV’s head of programming, said the company was eager to continue the story because the series connected strongly with audiences around the world.

The team also added that Eleanor also emerged as a fan-favourite character, making her the natural choice to lead a new chapter. Washington has expressed excitement about returning to Eleanor’s complicated and unpredictable life. Her performance and the character’s popularity helped convince Apple TV that there is potential to explore more of Eleanor’s story.

The creative team has also changed. Annie Weisman, who helped develop the first season, will return as co-showrunner. She will work alongside Justin Hillian, known for "The Chi" and "Snowfall". Together, they have created a new mystery designed to expand the world of the series while giving Eleanor a fresh story.
