Warner Bros. has announced a release date for a new addition to the Game of Thrones universe: its first feature film, Aegon’s Conquest. The film will be headed to the big screen on June 1, 2029.
The film will be directed by Owen Harris, with Beau Willimon as writer.
Reports say that the story will be set around 300 years before the original series.
It will focus on Aegon I Targaryen, who united six of the seven kingdoms and forged the Iron Throne. The character has never appeared on screen in any live-action production set in the GOT universe.
The production house has also not announced any of the cast or production dates for the movie.
The original HBO series, Game of Thrones, ran from 2011 to 2019 and was an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. A prequel series, House of the Dragon explored the Targaryen civil war set 200 years before the events of the original series.
Talks proposing a film adaptation for the books have been ongoing for a decade.
The creators of GOT had previously proposed adapting the finale as three different feature films. The idea was scrapped, and the series got an eighth and final season.
Owen Harries previously directed episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Mrs Davis, and Black Mirror.
Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2026 without naming a director, writer, or release date.
