Adding a new twist to the long-standing dispute between Vivek Oberoi and Salman Khan, the Bollywood actors seemed to have found common ground in defending actress Katrina Kaif.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Oberoi was asked about his opinion on Khan’s stance against constant trolling. "Trolling karna bhi nahi chahiye, trolling negative cheez hai, positive kaam itne hain life mein karne ke liye, kya negative mein pade ho (You shouldn't troll anyone. There are so many positive things to do in life. Why indulge in negative things?)"
While hosting the latest weekend episode of Hindi Bigg Boss Season 20, Salman Khan pointed out the social media culture of trolling and the mentality of people who willingly target others without looking after their own personal lives.
The superstar’s comments came after co-star Katrina Kaif faced a recent round of online body-shaming over her post-pregnancy weight gain. The actress had made a public appearance while taking part in a Ganesh Chaturthi celebration hosted by the Ambani family.
Without naming Katrina, Khan questioned why anyone should troll someone for gaining weight after giving birth. He added that gaining weight is a normal and expected part of pregnancy and that when she returns to her acting career, she will be fit again. He highlighted that she might simply want to spend time with her family right now.
He also criticised the culture of age-shaming celebrities on social media, calling such comments unnecessary and “dirty.
Oberoi has previously talked about the difficult phase with constant media scrutiny in his life, when his equation with Khan was in shambles.
The two actors had an intense public fallout in 2003, when Oberoi was in a close relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai. According to him, Khan, who used to date Aishwarya, objected to her new relationship with Oberoi.
Oberoi held a press conference alleging that Khan repeatedly called him and threatened him over the phone. Over the years, Oberoi has maintained that he would prefer to move on and focus on the positive aspects of his life.
