"Vishwanath and Sons", the much-anticipated Tamil family entertainer starring Suriya and Mamitha Baiju, is set to make its digital debut on Netflix on September 11, 2026. While some earlier reports suggested a September 14 release, the September 11 premiere has now been confirmed.
The film will be available in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.
Directed by Venky Atluri, "Vishwanath and Sons" has received a largely positive response from both critics and family audiences. The film currently has a strong 7.4/10 rating on IMDb. Viewers have especially praised its clean and heartwarming approach, calling it a breezy family drama that successfully combines comedy, emotional moments and themes of family responsibility.
Suriya and Mamitha Baiju have also received widespread appreciation for their performances and on-screen chemistry. Suriya’s portrayal of a middle-aged billionaire and pistol shooter has been described as classy and mature, while Mamitha has been praised for her lively performance and strong presence, particularly in the second half.
The film has also earned appreciation for its mature treatment of subjects such as surrogacy and unconventional age-gap relationships. Despite exploring modern themes, it maintains a strong focus on family values.
A small section of critics, however, felt that the 'second family' sub-plot in the second half distracting and taking the attention away from the lead pair. But the overall response has been overwhelmingly positive, with the film being regarded as a satisfying and feel-good theatrical success.
At the box office, "Vishwanath and Sons" has emerged as a major blockbuster and is currently the third highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026. The movie crossed the ₹200-crore worldwide mark by the fourth week, becoming Suriya’s fastest film to reach both the ₹100-crore and ₹200-crore milestones. It earned more than ₹120 crore in India net and over ₹64.75 crore from overseas markets. It also became Suriya’s fastest film to cross $1 million in North America.
