Yash-starrer "Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups" has faced another setback at the Indian box office, with its English-language version recording an extremely poor opening day.
Released in theatres on Friday, September 4, 2026, the English cut reportedly collected just ₹1.40 lakh across India. As per reports, it sold only around 450 tickets and was screened in just 11 shows across four cities — Mumbai, Gurugram, Noida and Bengaluru.
The result is particularly disappointing because "Toxic" had already opened in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam on August 26. The English version, which was written and shot alongside the other language versions rather than being a conventional dubbed edition, arrived in theatres later with a shorter runtime of 176 minutes, or approximately two hours and 56 minutes. It is about 18 minutes shorter than the primary Indian-language versions.
Despite the English version's weak performance, the film's overall box-office numbers remain much stronger (albeit not necessarily in terms of overall budget and ROI, per trade buzz). By September 4, its 10th day, "Toxic" had earned approximately ₹241.05 crore net in India and around ₹331 crore worldwide. The film had made a massive ₹140.75 crore globally on its opening day.
However, the film's momentum dropped sharply after its first weekend, largely because of mixed-to-negative word of mouth. On its second Friday, its domestic net collection fell to ₹1.75 crore, a 58.8% decline from the previous day.
The delayed English release also faced competition from newer films such as "Mirzapur: The Movie". With limited screenings and weak audience interest, the English version struggled to find an audience, adding another challenge to the film's theatrical run.
