"Mirzapur: The Movie" has made a remarkable start at the Indian box office, collecting a Day 1 net of around ₹25.15 crore across 11,135 shows. Its total India gross collection stands at ₹30.18 crore, making it one of the biggest Hindi openings of the year.
What makes the film’s debut especially impressive is how it achieved these numbers without relying on a traditional Bollywood A-list superstar. Instead, its opening has been powered by the enormous popularity of the "Mirzapur" franchise (on Prime Video) and the strong fan base built through its years on OTT.
For the sake of comparison, the film's opening of roughly ₹24.75–25.15 crore net matches with the first-day performance of biggies like Salman Khan’s "Sikandar", which collected ₹24.75 crore. It also came close to major star-driven releases such as "War 2", starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, and "Chhaava", led by Vicky Kaushal.
Among other films in the ₹20–30 crore opening range, "Saiyaara" collected around ₹21–22 crore, while "Awarapan 2" opened at approximately ₹21.5–22 crore. "Mirzapur" has therefore outperformed several established Bollywood franchises and star-led projects.
The film’s success highlights the growing power of OTT-based franchises in theatrical cinema. Characters such as Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) and Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) have become strong brands in their own right, showing that popular streaming characters can attract audiences to cinemas just like major movie stars. In fact, the film's box office performance is a milestone for Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and the rest of the cast members.
The film has also recorded strong occupancy in mass markets such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi NCR, as well as in multiplexes.
