Dhanush could be heading into a new rural setting for his next project, with reports suggesting that the actor is in discussions with director Siva for an untitled film originally planned with Ajith Kumar. The project, reportedly envisioned as a mass entertainer with strong emotions, could go on floors as early as December or January if the plans come together.
Siva, who last directed “Kanguva”, has reportedly narrated the story to Dhanush, who is said to be interested in taking the project forward. The film has not been officially announced yet, and while it is being described as a rural-based story, details about its plot remain under wraps.
The project was initially expected to mark another collaboration between Siva and Ajith Kumar. However, Ajith's busy schedule has reportedly put that plan on hold. He is set to work with Adhik Ravichander on “Dare Devil”, followed by a project with director Venkat Prabhu.
If Dhanush comes on board, the film would become Siva's next project after “Kanguva”. The reported rural setting and action-oriented approach are expected to make it an entertainer aimed primarily at Dhanush's fans.
Dhanush's packed line-up
The reported collaboration comes as Dhanush prepares for a busy run of projects following the poor response to his last release, “Kara”, an action thriller directed by Vignesh Raja.
He is currently working on Rajkumar Periasamy's “Om”, which also stars Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah. The action drama is scheduled to release on October 16, 2026, a day after Rajinikanth's “Jailer 2”, which is slated to hit theatres on October 15. Om is planned as the first instalment of a two-part franchise, with Sai Abhyankkar composing its songs and background score.
Dhanush also has separate projects with directors Tamizharasan Pachamuthu and Mari Selvaraj. He recently announced his collaboration with Vetrimaaran on “Thamizh Murugan”.
For now, however, the Siva-Dhanush project remains unannounced, with December or January said to be the window for filming to commence.
