Amazon MGM Studios has announced a live-action series based on the classic science-fiction romance manga "Please Save My Earth". The series will premiere worldwide on Prime Video in autumn 2027.
The story follows Arisu Sakaguchi, a high school student who has a special ability to communicate with plants. Her life changes when she and several classmates begin having vivid, shared dreams. In these dreams, they remember lives they once lived as alien scientists working at a research station on the Moon.
Japanese actress Alice Hirose will star as Mokuren, a central character who helps set the mystery in motion. The cast also includes Kento Senga, Shota Watanabe and Ryusei Yokohama. Takahiro Miki, known for "Blue Spring Ride", will direct the series, while creative studio THE SEVEN is producing it with Kadokawa Daiei Studio.
Created by Saki Hiwatari, "Please Save My Earth" was serialized from 1986 to 1994 and became an influential 21-volume sci-fi shōjo manga. Its story follows seven people—six teenagers and a seven-year-old boy—who discover that they are reincarnations of alien scientists who once studied Earth from the Moon. As their memories return through shared dreams, old romances, betrayals and conflicts begin affecting their present lives.
The manga was also adapted into a six-part OVA in 1993 by Production I.G, then known as Studio I.G. The anime is remembered for its beautiful animation and atmospheric soundtrack by Yoko Kanno. However, it covers only about the first third of the manga, leaving the full story and its ending in the original books. The new live-action series could therefore introduce this complex sci-fi romance to a much wider global audience.
