Despite opening a month ago, the film, which is currently Nolan’s highest-grossing film of all time, benefited from a strong international response, especially after its China release, which contributed more numbers.
“The Odyssey” is also notable for being the first feature film captured completely on IMAX cameras. This premium format has helped bolster its historic financial run, allowing Nolan to surpass his own previous lifetime box office record holder, “The Dark Knight Rises” ($1.085 billion).
Actor Ryan Reynolds jokingly conceded the box office crown by posting a congratulatory message that played on a running joke from “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
On his social media accounts, Reynolds posted: "Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of The Odyssey for becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. That is one helluva car."
Alongside the text, Reynolds shared a humorous mashup video that juxtaposed scenes from both blockbusters. It cuts between Matt Damon (playing Odysseus) quietly marching through a dangerous forest with his men, and Deadpool and Wolverine aggressively tearing each other apart inside a fourth-generation Honda Odyssey minivan. At the end of the clip, an exhausted Deadpool looks up and says, "I take it back. The Odyssey f***s hard."
Worldwide, "The Odyssey" is the second highest-grossing film of 2026, behind "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", which soared past the $2 billion mark recently.
