Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has officially revealed the main cast of the upcoming X-Men reboot at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The film will introduce a completely new version of the famous mutant team and will be separate from the earlier X-Men movies made by 20th Century Fox.
The confirmed cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will play the main villain, Mister Sinister.
The movie will be directed by Jake Schreier, known for "Thunderbolts", with a screenplay by Lee Sung Jin, writer of "Beef", and Joanna Calo, known for "The Bear". It is currently scheduled to arrive in theatres on May 5, 2028.
Feige has stressed that this is not the complete mutant line-up. More classic X-Men characters are expected to be announced as production moves forward.
The film will also play an important role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is expected to arrive after "Avengers: Secret Wars" and will help launch a new era known as the “Mutant Saga.” Rather than continuing the stories of the older films, Marvel is starting from the beginning, with younger versions of the classic characters.
Some familiar X-Men actors may still appear in Marvel projects such as "Avengers: Doomsday". However, actors such as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen would represent alternate-universe versions of their characters. They will not share the same history as Sink’s Jean Grey or Connor’s Cyclops in the main MCU timeline.
