Lokesh Kanagaraj’s popularity as a filmmaker seems to have helped to a certain extent. Many have accepted him as an action hero with commendable screen presence. Other factors include Wamiqa Gabbi, composer Anirudh’s exceptional soundtrack, and overall stellar direction. Ultimately, it’s strong word-of-mouth that is working in the action drama’s favour.
The performance of “DC” in Tamil Nadu has been uniquely steady. It earned ₹9.67 crore gross in 4 days. While this is relatively lower than the massive opening weekends of big Tamil star vehicles, it is a massive commercial hit when budget and cast value are taken into account.
Unlike traditional hits driven by big stars, “DC” relies entirely on the director-actor brand of Lokesh Kanagaraj making his acting debut, aside from Matheshwaran’s track record as an unapologetic filmmaker known for A-rated violence.

Notably, “DC” is faring well in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with a cumulative net total of ₹8.50 crore, which is exceptionally close to the TN collection.
