Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar’s much-anticipated 64th film, officially titled "Daredevil", kicked off its journey with a traditional pooja ceremony in Chennai on November 2, 2026.
Known previously by its working title, AK64, the upcoming action entertainer brings Ajith back together with director Adhik Ravichandran after the success of their 2025 film, "Good Bad Ugly". The new project has already created considerable excitement among fans, with a popular cast, an experienced technical team and an interesting creative vision.
The launch ceremony also marked an important moment in the personal and professional life of Ajith’s family. His wife, Shalini Ajith Kumar, is making her debut as a film producer with "Daredevil". She will finance the film under her newly launched production banner, Brave Hearts Productions. Several members of the cast and crew attended the ceremony.
However, Ajith himself was absent, since he is reportedly known for skipping initial film launch pooja events.
The film features an impressive ensemble cast. Ajith Kumar will play the lead role. Sreeleela has been cast as the female lead. The supporting cast includes Unni Mukundan, R. Parthiban, Prabhu, Sunil and Redin Kingsley. The music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his fourth collaboration with Ajith. The technical team includes cinematographer Abinandhan Ramanujam, editor Vijay Velukutty and stunt choreographer Supreme Sundar.
According to the current production plans, regular shooting is expected to begin after the Diwali holidays, around November 13 or 16. The team is preparing for an extensive month-long first schedule at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. Filming will then move to Chennai for further schedules. Ajith’s major portions are expected to be filmed through December. The makers are targeting a grand theatrical release in 2027.
One of the most interesting aspects of "Daredevil" is director Adhik Ravichandran’s decision to explore a completely different treatment from "Good Bad Ugly". In an interview with Behindwoods, the director explained that he does not want to repeat the formula of their previous successful film. He believes audiences should be offered something fresh rather than another version of what they have already enjoyed.
Adhik has described "Daredevil" as a complete commercial entertainer designed to appeal to different sections of the audience. According to him, the characters, storyline and screenplay will offer an entertaining experience for cinema lovers, Ajith fans, families and children alike.
Interestingly, the title "Daredevil" was suggested by Ajith himself. Adhik feels the name perfectly describes the actor, given his willingness to take risks and take on different challenges — both in cinema and beyond.
The director also revealed that "Daredevil" was supposed to be their first film together. However, due to time and budget limitations, they decided to make "Good Bad Ugly" first.
The relationship between Ajith and Adhik goes back several years. Before turning director, Adhik was a devoted fan of the actor. The former met the superstar during a difficult period in his career. The actor encouraged him with reassuring words, telling him he had the talent to succeed and should not lose his direction. That moment gave Adhik fresh confidence and helped build the mutual respect that eventually led to their professional partnership.
Interestingly, Adhik also had a brief acting appearance alongside Ajith before directing him. He played one of the antagonists in H. Vinoth's "Nerkonda Paarvai", the Tamil remake of "Pink", which featured Ajith in the lead role.
