Dhurandhar has become the most-watched non-English film of the year 2026 on streaming platform Netflix. The news was broken by Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, who praised the Bollywood espionage thriller as "bigger than every other English movie".
The first part of the Aditya Dhar project managed 37 million views between January and June 2026 and topped Netflix charts in 22 countries, reports said.
Dhurandhar became the first Indian film to cross 7 million views in its opening weekend on Netflix, recording 7.6 million views. As per reports, it spent 10 consecutive weeks in Netflix's Global Top 10. Later, it was reported that as per Netflix's engagement report, Dhurandhar was Netflix's biggest Indian film globally, with around 37 million views by mid-2026.
In box office terms, it was the first Indian film franchise to surpass ₹3,000 crore worldwide, reaching the milestone in just 25 days after Dhurandhar: The Revenge's release. As of the end of Dhurandhar 2's theatrical run, the Ranveer Singh-starrer grossed over ₹3,100+ crore worldwide.
"Dhurandhar was the most-watched non-English movie in the world this year. Bigger than every other English [movie] and second only to the US and the UK in terms of watching," Ted Sarandos reportedly told Express Adda.
Talking about the possibility of Indian content becoming a global phenomenon, he reportedly said: "I think, right now, because there is this enormous, beautiful, rich, long history of movies in India. I think when we came in and made Sacred Games, it was a whole different kind of television, so through most of the history and all that that’s coming through, it’s likely to come through in the form of cinema.”
“We have had an Indian movie or series in the Global Top 10 every week since 2024. And this is the result of an algorithm that helps you find things, and that’s unintuitive, that I am going to love. So in that number, with 3.5 billion hours of watching Indian content on Netflix around the world this year,” he reportedly added.
