Sony Pictures has unveiled the final trailer for “Insidious: Out of the Further”, offering a closer look at the sixth instalment in the long-running supernatural horror franchise. Scheduled to release exclusively in theatres on August 21, 2026, the film introduces a new protagonist while bringing back franchise mainstay Lin Shaye as paranormal investigator Elise Rainer.
Since its debut in 2010, the “Insidious” series has built a loyal following through its blend of supernatural horror, suspense and jump scares. While it has often existed in the shadow of “The Conjuring” universe, the franchise has remained one of horror's most successful properties. Its previous instalment, “Insidious: The Red Door” (2023), marked Patrick Wilson's feature directorial debut and became the highest-grossing film in the series.
The latest film shifts the focus to Gemma, played by “The Haunting of Bly Manor” actress Amelia Eve. A young mother raising her daughter in the house where she grew up, Gemma discovers she possesses an unusual ability to enter the Further, the mysterious realm of lost souls that has been central to the Insidious mythology from the beginning.
According to the official synopsis, Gemma soon realises her power extends beyond simply entering the Further. She can also bring its inhabitants back into the real world. Once the supernatural forces become aware of her ability, the boundary between the two worlds begins to collapse, placing her family in grave danger.
The final trailer centres on that premise, showing Gemma struggling to understand her newfound powers as increasingly dangerous entities intrude on the human world. Rather than another story about people venturing into the Further, the film overturns the idea, asking what happens when the Further no longer needs an invitation.
Lin Shaye reprises her role as Elise Rainer, continuing her unique presence across every Insidious film despite the character's death in the original movie. In the trailer, Elise helps Gemma understand the significance of her abilities before delivering a chilling warning: "When the dead rise, it'll be the end of the living." Her return once again connects the franchise's latest chapter to its supernatural roots.
Written and directed by Jacob Chase, the film is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, with story credit shared by Chase and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The cast also includes Brandon Perea, Island Austin, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell, Laura Gordon, Joseph Lopez and Taylor Bogrand.
“Insidious: Out of the Further” arrives in theatres on August 21, with the final trailer signalling a new chapter that expands the mythology of the Further while introducing a fresh supernatural threat.
