Actor Pradeep Rawat died at the age of 74 at a hospital in Bhiwandi on Tuesday. He was known for acting in Aamir Khan starrers like Ghajini, Lagaan and Sarfarosh.
How did Pradeep Rawat die?
Rawat had been battling blood cancer for the past five years. Though he had recovered in the past, the cancer relapsed a few months ago.
Following this, he had been hospitalised at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for several weeks. Reports said his health condition deteriorated recently and he was shifted to a cancer specialty hospital.
According to the actor's manager Siddharth Tiwari, he died around 6.30 pm on Tuesday after his platelet count dropped suddenly.
Sharing the tragic news, Rawat's Lagaan co-star Yashpal Sharma posted on social media, "Pradeep Rawat, our Ghajini, Deva of Lagaan, RIP." Rawat played the role of Deva Singh Sodhi in Lagaan.
He debuted with Meri Jung in 1985. Among his earliest roles on screen include Ashwatthama in iconic 1988 TV show Mahabharat.
Rawat also played several roles in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. His role in SS Rajamouli's Sye in 2004 was his Telugu debut.
To the younger audience, he was known through his menacing titular villain in Ghajini's original version in Tamil. He reprised the role in the 2008 Hindi adaptation and won critical acclaim in Bollywood too.
His filmography also inlcudes Aayirathil Iruvar, Market Raja MBBS, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Stalin, Veeram and 1: Nenokkadine.
