A recent social media trend called "We Need to Apologise to Hrithik" has sparked fresh discussion about the long-running dispute between actors Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut. However, Hrithik himself has distanced himself from the trend, saying that people should focus on facts rather than changing public opinion.
The trend gained attention after Kangana Ranaut faced criticism online for calling student protesters "Generation Gutter." Around the same time, during a political debate, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das joked that Kangana was attacking him because his friends said he looked like a "young Hrithik Roshan." These incidents led many social media users, especially Gen Z, to revisit the actors' 2016 legal dispute and claim that Hrithik deserved an apology.
Lifestyle influencer Freddy Birdy also shared a post saying that "the world owes an apology to Hrithik Roshan." Responding to the post, Hrithik made it clear that he did not support people taking sides simply because public opinion had shifted.
In his comment, Hrithik wrote that supporting one person just because another has become unpopular reflects a larger problem in society. He said he would rather wait until opinions were based on proper context and facts, adding that such an approach would be fair.
Soon after, Kangana reacted on her Instagram Stories. She asked Hrithik to stop "adding fuel to the fire" and criticised him for commenting on the issue while being in a relationship with actor Saba Azad. She also urged him to speak out against online trolls who use his name to target and harass her.
Many social media users, however, believe Kangana may have misunderstood Hrithik's comment. Instead of encouraging the online campaign against her, they argue that Hrithik was actually discouraging people from judging the situation without facts or context, while calling her out for mentioning Saba unnecessarily.
