"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has made an extraordinary start at the global box office, breaking several major records in just its first few days. The latest Spider-Man adventure is already being called one of the biggest movie openings in cinema history.
By the end of Saturday, the movie had already collected around $685 million worldwide. Around $240 million of that total came from North America, while international markets contributed roughly $347 million. With Sunday still to be counted, some analysts believe the film could finish its opening weekend with as much as $875 million globally, although final figures have yet to be confirmed.
The film's rapid success has also rewritten the Spider-Man record books. It is now officially the fastest-grossing Spider-Man film during its opening days.
On its first Friday, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" earned $168 million, easily surpassing the franchise’s previous record of $121.9 million, which was set by "Spider-Man: No Way Home". Its projected opening weekend of $325 million or more also exceeds the "No Way Home" domestic $260.1 million debut.
Although "Spider-Man: No Way Home" still holds the franchise's lifetime worldwide record with $1.9 billion, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has achieved the fastest ticket sales ever for a Spider-Man movie. Its record-breaking opening suggests that it could become one of the biggest box-office successes of all time if strong audience demand continues in the weeks ahead.
In North America, the film delivered a historic opening day. It earned an incredible $168 million on Friday, a figure that includes Thursday preview screenings. This broke the previous all-time domestic opening day record of $157 million, set by "Avengers: Endgame". Thursday previews alone brought in a remarkable $72 million, setting another new record.
Internationally, the movie has reached key milestones faster than any previous solo superhero film. Along with its huge opening in India, it also benefited from record-breaking advance ticket sales in countries such as South Korea. India has been one of the movie's strongest international markets. Released a day earlier than in many other countries, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" earned more than Rs 215 crore (about $25.8 million) during its first three days. This impressive performance outpaced several major Indian blockbusters and showed strong audience demand heading into the weekend.
It goes without saying that Tom Holland has secured another massive blockbuster after "The Odyssey".
