Instead of walking onto the stage like a special guest, Reynolds emerged from the audience wearing Deadpool's comic-accurate grey-and-black X-Force suit. It was the first time this version of the costume had been seen in a live-action public appearance.
Staying in character, Reynolds introduced himself as "Ricky" and joked that he was simply "cosplaying hard". He then playfully interrupted the panel, which featured directors Anthony and Joe Russo alongside Robert Downey Jr., and asked if he could join the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. The exchange quickly turned into a comedy sketch when Downey, who is set to play Doctor Doom, replied that filming had already finished, leaving Deadpool hilariously out of luck.
The appearance comes shortly after Reynolds confirmed at Fanatics Fest that a new Deadpool film is officially in development at Marvel Studios. He teased that the project will include "deep cuts" from the comics, suggesting that fans can expect lesser-known characters and storylines to make an appearance.
Alongside the Comic-Con surprise, major entertainment outlets have confirmed that Reynolds will return as Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday. However, he is not expected to become an official member of the Avengers. Instead, Wade Wilson will reportedly play the role of a multiverse wildcard, bringing his trademark humour and unpredictability to the story while fighting alongside other groups, including the X-Men.
