The film's highest earnings came from the Tamil version (Rs 17.95 crore), followed by the Hindi version (Rs 1.85 crore) and the Telugu version (Rs 1.35 crore).
Much-anticipated by Vijay fans all over the world, “Jana Nayagan” faced a half-year delay before being released on July 23. The audience, however, had largely negative to mixed feelings towards the film. This reaction may have caused a relatively weaker box office performance from Day 2 onwards, compared to his previous hits like “Leo” and “GOAT”.
"Jana Nayagan" finished Day 2 with a worldwide Gross of Rs 112.50 crore, with an overseas gross of Rs 37.50 crore. As of 9:30, Day 3 kicked off on a high note with India Net sales rising by a whopping Rs 0.79 crore, with total BookMyShow ticket sales crossing 2.3 million.
"Jana Nayagan" is a remake of the 2023 Telugu film "Bhagavanth Kesari". Directed by H. Vinoth, the film revolves around a former chief of police, Thalapathy Vetri Kondan (Vijay), who ends up in prison after an incident and becomes the guardian of Viji (Mamitha Baiju), the daughter of his deceased friend. Vetri encourages Viji to pursue an ambitious career in the Indian Army despite her intense panic attacks and being overwhelmed by traumatic memories of a violent riot. The calm ride of their life gets thrown for a loop when a mercenary, John Himmler (Bobby Deol), hatches a massive plot with the help of corrupt politicians and businessmen to destroy democratic institutions.
The cast includes Prakash Raj and Nasser in significant roles, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav. The film was initially set to premiere in January of this year but was postponed due to conflicts between the producers and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
