The $346 million first-week gross matches some of the biggest blockbuster films in modern cinema. Unlike franchise films such as "The Avengers: Endgame", which crossed similar totals in just a few days, "The Odyssey" is building on its growing word-of-mouth.
Its first-week performance closely matches that of Christopher Nolan’s "The Dark Knight" (2008), which earned $341.8 million worldwide in its first week. It also mirrors the early box office results of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (2016), which reached $344.5 million, and Disney’s "Frozen" (2013), which collected $342.3 million during its first week.
Made on a production budget of $250 million, "The Odyssey", an adaptation of Homer's classic poem, recovered its production costs within just three days of release. Its strong performance in both domestic and international markets has made it one of the biggest hits of 2026 so far.
In North America alone, the film reportedly earned $124.5 million during its opening weekend from 3,919 theatres. Premium formats such as IMAX and PXL played a major role in appealing to fans of big-scale theatrical experiences. Outside North America, "The Odyssey" collected $139.6 million across 73 international markets in its first three days, with overseas revenue continuing to grow beyond $140 million during its first week.
In India, where Nolan enjoys a massive fan base, "The Odyssey" has also been a huge success. By the end of its first week, it had collected an estimated Rs 90.30 crore net (Rs 107.72 crore gross). It also became the highest-grossing IMAX opening in Indian box office history, surpassing Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning".
The movie has already achieved several major milestones. Its $264.1 million global opening weekend is the biggest of Nolan’s career, beating the openings of "The Dark Knight Rises" ($249 million) and "Oppenheimer" ($180 million). It also recorded the largest opening weekend for a live-action film released in 2026. In addition, "The Odyssey" became only the second film ever to earn more than $50 million worldwide from IMAX screens in a single weekend.
