Apple TV has announced that it is ending "The Morning Show" with Season 5. The decision is to allow the creative team to build a deliberate, planned conclusion for its characters rather than letting the story drag out indefinitely. According to the streaming giant's official announcement from Apple TV, the decision was made ahead of time so the series could wrap up on its own terms.
Star and executive producer Jennifer Aniston stated that knowing it would be the final season allowed the team to craft the narrative conclusion with intentionality. “From the beginning, Apple has supported our vision for ‘The Morning Show,’ and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to tell stories that reflect what’s happening in the world around us with a twist of dark humour,” she said in an official statement.
“It’s been such a privilege to work with this insanely talented cast and our extraordinary writers, producers and crew. We’ve become such a family, and we’re all so excited to share this final season. And going in knowing it would be our last, we were so fortunate to craft the conclusion with intentionality and honour these characters the way they deserve,” she added.
Running for five seasons allowed the series makers to fully explore its major themes, including media ethics, corporate cover-ups, and the evolution of the modern newsroom. Having premiered on the very day Apple TV+ debuted in 2019, the show has achieved its foundational purpose of establishing Apple as a major player in scripted television.
The fifth and final season is scheduled to premiere in 2027. The final episodes will introduce new high-profile cast members, including Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, and Jesse Williams. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon will return one last time as Alex Levy and Bradley Jackson. Notably, Daniels previously headlined the broadcast journalism-based series "The Newsroom".
In her statement, Witherspoon said, “The past nine years producing and acting in ‘The Morning Show’ have been the honour of a lifetime. This was always more than a show about a newsroom — it was a show about why the newsroom matters. About freedom of the press and the journalists who protect the fourth estate, often at great cost. Telling that story has been the creative privilege of my career. Thank you to Apple for their unwavering support, to our visionary writers, our incredible crew, and our extraordinarily talented cast, who brought five seasons to life with a truth audiences believed every step of the way. It has been a stellar creative experience — one I will always treasure.”
Other notable cast members of "The Morning Show" include Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm.
"The Morning Show" was created by Jay Carson, with Kerry Ehrin developing the series and serving as showrunner for its initial runs. The drama was inspired by Brian Stelter's book 'Top of the Mornin'. The later seasons were spearheaded by Charlotte Stoudt, who took over as the showrunner and lead writer. She assumed leadership with Season 3 and continued steering the creative direction through Season 4.
