Kaylee Hottle, an 18-year-old actress best known for her roles in two Godzilla films, passed away in a car accident in Maryland.

The incident took place early on Tuesday morning when she was allegedly travelling in a car to Maryland, when it went off-road and hit a culvert in Ijamsville, MD. The actress was one of the two passengers in the car. The vehicle was being driven by a 19-year-old man from Frederick. The driver was taken to a local hospital after sustaining only minor injuries. The second passenger declined medical treatment. According to reports, excessive speed is suspected to be the reason behind the accident.

Hottle’s heart stopped on the way to the hospital, when she was being transported via air.

The news was first shared by Joshua Hottle, Kaylee’s father, who flew in from Texas to collect her body.

“Kaylee’s mom and four siblings are crushed,” her father said in American Sign Language (ASL) in a post from an airport. “They are together at home, grieving. I am on my way to Maryland to bring Kaylee’s body back home.”

Kyliee was hearing impaired and is a part of a multi-generational deaf family. She was a senior student at the Texas School for the Deaf. The school shared emotional statements about her on social media, requesting everyone to provide privacy to the grieving family.

Her Godzilla co-star Millie Bobbie Brown posted on Instagram, “I’m so devastated to hear this. You will be deeply missed Kaylee.”

Kaylee began her career through commercials, at the age of nine. Her most famous roles include the character of Jia, a deaf orphan in 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong” and 2024’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” In the film, she sees beyond the intimidating appearance of Kong and forms a close bond with the monster, communicating with ASL.
