A 55-year-old man was killed on Saturday night after a speeding Mahindra Thar vehicle driven by a woman struck his scooter in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur.

Police have seized the SUV and launched an investigation

The victim was identified as Santosh Kumar Singh Chauhan’s scooter. He died at the scene following the collision in the Kalyanpur area’s Awas Vikas-3 locality at around 7:30 pm.

The impact reportedly dragged the two-wheeler for several metres before the Thar crashed into a boundary wall.

According to eyewitnesses, two women and one man were travelling in the SUV when the accident took place.

The collision caused a large crowd around the area. Police later reached the spot, and the body was taken into custody.

The Thar involved in the accident was identified, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.

The vehicle had Krishna Group written on its rear.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Dileep Kumar Sing said a case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family.

"This evening at 7:30 pm (Saturday), information was received that an accident had occurred. Upon the police's arrival at the scene, it was found that a car had struck a person riding a scooter; the scooter rider died on the spot. The victim has been identified as Santosh Kumar Singh Chauhan. Contact has been established with the family of the victim. A case is being registered, and further legal action is being taken in this regard,” he said.

One eyewitness, Rakesh Kumar, who spoke to NDTV, alleged that the SUV travelled at a high speed and dragged the scooter for around 25 to 30 meters after hitting it before eventually crashing into a railing.
