Reports of Alia Bhatt joining the cast of "Tumbbad 2" have been doing the rounds for a while. Multiple portals reported earlier that the "Gangubai Kathiawadi" actress was joining the film for an extended guest appearance, and later do a full-fledged role in a third film.

On Tuesday, the makers officially announced her inclusion in the folk horror-themed saga. Actor-producer Sohum Shah shared a picture alongside her on his social media handles to confirm. Adding more to the star power is actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

In an official statement, Alia Bhatt said, “Tumbbad has stayed with me ever since I first watched it. Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people’s imaginations years after release. That’s what makes this opportunity so exciting. To now become a part of that world is incredibly special. I’m looking forward to working with Sohum and Nawaz, two artists I’ve admired for a long time, and to exploring a character that belongs to a story as rich, mysterious and unforgettable as Tumbbad. I can’t wait for audiences to experience what we’re creating together.”

"Tumbbad 2", which is directed by Adesh Prasad this time around, is slated for release on December 3. The filmmaker co-wrote and co-produced the 2018 original directed by Rahi Anil Barve, who, for unexplained reasons, is not returning to direct the sequel.

While official plot details are being kept under wraps, multiple platforms like Pinkvilla and Bollywood Hungama have quoted sources saying that the sequel will feature a massive climactic twist that establishes the groundwork for the events in "Tumbbad 3".

"Tumbbad 2" is being produced by Sohum Shah Films in association with Jayantilal Gada's PEN Studios. "Tumbbad 2" is expected to move away from its indie roots and go bigger with a reported budget of around Rs 100 crore. Tumbbad 2 has a staggering budget of approximately ₹100 crore. A Hindustan Times report states that the makers have built a sprawling city set of 7-8 acres in Mumbai just for the first schedule alone.
