Alia Bhatt's "Alpha" hasn't exactly set the cash registers on fire compared to the previous entries of the YRF Spy Universe. However, compared with Alia's previous solo openings such as “Jigra” and “Gangubai Kathiawadi”, it has earned more than "Jigra" in terms of domestic net and worldwide totals. However, it has opened lower than "Gangubai Kathiawadi" in net earnings. Interestingly, "Alpha" has earned marginally more than "Gangubai" in worldwide gross.
As per estimates from box office tracker Sacnilk, the Day 1 domestic net collection of "Alpha" comes to Rs 9.25 crore, while gross collection comes to Rs 11.10 crore. With Rs 5 crore from overseas, the global total now stands at Rs 16.10 crore. "Gangubai" collected Rs 16 crore worldwide on Day 1. Despite tracking across 7,534 shows (compared to Gangubai's limited post-pandemic screen count), "Alpha" could not touch the Rs 10+ crore domestic milestone on Day 1 due to lower average theatre occupancy (20.40%).
That said, the numbers are discouraging when focusing on the YRF Spy Universe itself, when taking into account the opening-day numbers of "Pathaan" (Rs 57 crore) and "War 2" (Rs 52 crore). “Alpha” is said to have benefited in a small way from the strong international distribution, since the overseas total so far (Rs 5 crore) contributed to the cumulative Rs 16.10 crore that puts it marginally above “Gangubai”. It remains to be seen whether the movie will pick up during the three-day weekend and avoid the box-office misfire of "Jigra".
Directed by Shiv Rawail from a story by Uday Chopra, "Alpha" features Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. Hrithik Roshan appears in a cameo.
