"Main Vaapas Aaunga", directed by Imtiaz Ali, has achieved one of the most unusual box office runs seen in recent years. While most films lose momentum after a strong opening weekend, this film has done exactly the opposite. Thanks to exceptional word-of-mouth, it has earned significantly more in its second week than it did in its first, making it one of the rare Hindi films to completely reverse its box office fortunes.

On Day 16, the film collected ₹4.25 crore net across 1,803 shows in India. This takes its total India collections to ₹49.83 crore gross and ₹41.80 crore net. Overseas, it earned another ₹0.85 crore on Day 16, pushing its international gross to ₹14.90 crore. As a result, the film's worldwide gross now stands at ₹64.73 crore, as per estimates reported by box office tracker Sacnilk.

The most remarkable aspect of the film's performance is its second-week growth. During its first week, "Main Vaapas Aaunga" collected ₹12.46 crore net. In its second week, however, it earned ₹22.50 crore net, an increase of nearly 80 percent. Such a sharp rise after the opening week is extremely rare in today's box office landscape.

This kind of performance places "Main Vaapas Aaunga" in the exclusive category of "sleeper hits." These are movies that begin with modest collections but continue to grow because audiences strongly recommend them to others. Instead of fading after release, they build momentum over time.

The film's journey is similar to a few memorable Bollywood success stories. For example, "Queen" (2014), starring Kangana Ranaut, is said to have opened with just ₹1.75 crore on its first day but steadily gained audiences through positive word-of-mouth, maintaining strong collections well beyond its opening week. More recently, "12th Fail" (2023), directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, followed a similar path. After opening at only ₹1.10 crore, it remained remarkably steady for weeks and continued attracting viewers despite competition from much bigger releases.

The film's growing popularity also encouraged exhibitors to increase its screen presence, with shows rising from 2,139 on the first Monday to 2,631 on Day 11. Average theatre occupancy also improved from 15 percent to 21 percent, showing that more people are choosing to watch the film each day.

At a time when many big-budget films depend on huge opening weekends before seeing steep second-week declines, "Main Vaapas Aaunga" has proven that strong audience appreciation can still transform a modest opening into an impressive box office success.
