After a three-week theatrical run, Arjun Sarja's movie "Blast" has crossed Rs 70 crore at the worldwide box office and netted Rs 50 crore in India, according to Sacnilk figures. Although the daily collections have naturally slowed to under Rs 1 crore after the third Sunday, the film benefited from impressive front-loaded earnings in the first two weeks, earning more than enough to cover the production cost (break-even) and then some, since the film was reportedly made for under Rs 20 crore.
The directorial debut of filmmaker Subash K. Raj, the film, featuring a standout action-centric turn from Preity Mukundhan and equally significant lead performances from Arjun Sarja and Abhirami, has now joined the list of the Top 5 Tamil-language grossers of 2026, joining titles like "Karuppu", "Parasakthi", "Thaai Kizhavi", and "Youth". Domestically, it's the third-highest Tamil-language grosser, outperforming "Youth" and "Thaai Kizhavi" but trailing "Karuppu" and "Parasakthi".
However, when considering the Return On Investment (ROI), "Blast" is a bigger success than the Sivakarthikeyan film, which was declared a flop because it failed to reach the break-even point (it was reportedly made on a Rs 150 crore+ budget). "Blast" is also miles ahead of Dhanush's "Kara" in terms of ROI advantage.
Judging by the overall data, "Blast" earned 80.1% of its revenue domestically. Compared to the rest of the Top 5 entries, it relied the least on international markets, proving its deep theatrical penetration across India (notably driven by its stellar run in Tamil Nadu and Kerala).
"Blast" trails "Parasakthi" by less than Rs 5.50 crore in domestic gross. Since the theatrical run of "Parasakthi" has completely exhausted, "Blast" has a realistic chance of overtaking its domestic gross by the end of its theatrical window.
