Imtiaz Ali's latest movie "Main Vaapas Aaunga' may not have opened strongly on Day 1 as expected, but the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer has picked up at the box office on Day 2. Sacnilk figures showed that after earning Rs 1.15 crore on the first Friday, it showed a 60.9% growth, registering Rs 1.85 crore on the first Saturday.
The first Sunday performance is expected to be even better as more people have been spreading the word that the film is one of the director's finest. Currently, the film's India gross stands at Rs 3.60 crore, with a Rs 3 crore net.
While "Main Vaapas Aaunga" did not open with the kind of big numbers that some of his most popular hits did, its two-day opening collection is close to what his 2014 film "Highway" earned on its first day (Rs 3.42 crore). But since it's 2026 and the market behaviour has changed significantly, it goes without saying that the numbers need to be much higher to be included in the list of the highest-grossing Imtiaz Ali films in terms of the opening day totals. Currently, it's not even in the top five.
Ali's biggest opener was "When Harry Met Sejal", which, in two days, collected Rs 30.25 crore, followed by "Tamasha" (Rs 24.11 crore), "Love Aaj Kal" (Rs 20.41crore), "Rockstar" (Rs 21.25 crore), and "Highway" (Rs 8.24 crore).
"Main Vaapas Aaunga" is currently showing a strong day-to-day progression curve. In 2014, "Highway" relied heavily on a 40% jump on Saturday (to Rs 4.82 crore) due to positive reviews. The 60.9% jump of "Main Vaapas Aaunga" shows a similar audience pattern to "Highway", but it starts from a much lower financial baseline.
