Apple TV announces 'Widow's Bay' Season 2 as finale date approaches
Lead actor Matthew Rhys, who also serves as executive producer, may star in more than two seasons, especially with Dippold signing a multi-year deal with the streamer
When you type "Widow's Bay' on Google, it shows "Did you mean: the next Martha's Vineyard and definitely not cursed"? Everyone who has seen the show knows what this reference means. Talk about clever marketing. Anyway, the streamer has announced a new season for "Widow's Bay" ahead of the June 17

Created by Katie Dippold, the show starring Emmy Award winner Matthew Rhys ("The Americans", "Perry Mason") slowly gained momentum and gained fans after strong word-of-mouth. Rhys, who is also executive producer alongside Dippold and filmmaker Hiro Murai ("Atlanta"), may end up starring in more than two seasons if things go well. Apple has revealed that Dippold has signed a multi-year deal. It could also mean that she is developing other projects with the streamer.
In an official statement, Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss said, “From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laugh and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew and the entire team have created. It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
Dippold added that the new season will be about "how everything is great on the island, and there’s nothing to worry about.”
The show, which evokes thrillers from 1970s Hollywood, most notably "Jaws", is a potent blend of clever dark humour and neatly staged atmospheric horror courtesy of a host of unnatural, creepy characters. Rhys delivers one of his most memorable roles: the Mayor who, in the hope of attracting tourists, doesn't want rumours of freak occurrences and supernatural incidents to come in the way of business. But when he is forced to experience these himself, things take a different turn.
Created by Dippold, who also serves as showrunner, the first season's other cast members include Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey.
